High Tea?
Published 1 year, 10 months ago in Eat & Drink.I have always wondered where I could have a lovely ‘high tea’. Think scones with jam and cream, english breakfast and earl grey tea, that sort of thing.
I know of two places, such as the Hopetoun tea rooms in the Bourke St Arcade, and Miss Marple’s out in Sassafras. Does anyone else know of any other places in Melbourne?
Thank you xxx

Well another one to try is the Windsor at Spring St Melbourne. I am sure that they still have High Tea on Sundays but you’d better give them a call to check.
Cheers
I believe the Windsor Hotel has high tea in the afternoon…. I hope I have the right hotel.
where’s sassafras? my favourite place for devonshire tea is at the fairfield park boathouse. i liked having devonshire teas as a kid in olinda.. but i’m not sure about the name of the place that sells them. it was a cute antique kind of place. also, the botanical gardens do devonshire tea but the scones & jam & cream aren’t beautifully freshly homemade like the aforementioned places. to be honest, the best devonshire tea i have had in the past year was at the mansion hotel! i just went to lunch at the restaurant there.
The Windsor in Spring Street offer a ‘traditional afternoon tea’. 3:30 - 5:30 Mondays to Fridays and ‘Indulgence Afternoon Tea’ on the weekends at the same time. You can check out their website at http://www.thewindsor.com.au/rb-traditional.html.
I’ve heard great things about it, just haven’t gotten around to doing it yet.
Can also recommend the Windsor. Great food!
Hi again!
Just wanted to let you know that Sassafras is somewhere around the Dandenongs. Long drive from where I am! lol.
HighTea is served at the Antique coffee chop in Upper Heidelberg Rd in Ivanhoe. Truly delicious and much cheaper than WIndsor.
Holiday Sassafras is right next door to Olinda, in the dandenongs. Great area and Miss Marple is AWESOME for Devonshire Teas and the scones are…. well lets just say that the scones are “to die for”.
I can recommend the Windsor in Spring St for high tea, a little pricey but they do it very well.
Food Food and More food…YEAH!
COCO!
ps HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY MATE!
Thank you for your suggestions everybody, I can’t wait to try out some of the places you have suggested
Tea and cakes here I come!
Make sure you put the jam on top of the cream . Yes ON TOP of thr cream. It’s not hard to do. Tastes much better this way (can be scientifically proven !).
Most places in the Dandenongs do a Devonshire Tea, they generally have a sign outside. Henry VIII on the Mount Dandnenong Tourist Road does an awesome Devonshire Tea. Miss Marples is very nice, but it is often hard to get a table. Might be a long drive for some (not me) but well worth the beautiful views, the ferns, the fresh clean air and the views. What more can I say? Have a day out!
Also, the Yarra Ranges, there are many wineries that do a Devonshire Tea. Yes, the Windsor Hotel still does a High Tea, one where you should raise your little finger when drinking the tea!
